Our Workforce Development Programs
Youth Employment Service (YES)
The Youth Employment Service (YES) is a collaborative effort between the City of Simi Valley and the Chamber, targeting youth aged 15 to 22. YES offers a variety of services designed to assist young individuals in securing their first job and developing early career paths. Key components include:
- Entering the Workforce Workshops: These free workshops, held twice a year, focus on employment options for teens, workplace ethics, safety, and job readiness. They are tailored for youth aged 13 to 17.
- Interview Skills Workshops: Conducted at local high schools and the Simi Valley Public Library each spring, these workshops prepare students to apply and interview for jobs. They cover application processes, appropriate attire, and interview preparation.
- Annual Job and Career Fair: Hosted every spring, this event connects hundreds of young people with local employers, vocational schools, and recruiter services, facilitating direct engagement and networking opportunities.
Manufacturers Roundtable
The Manufacturers Roundtable serves as a platform for business owners in Simi Valley and surrounding areas to collaborate on strategies to attract and retain talent in the manufacturing sector. By fostering dialogue among local manufacturers, the Roundtable aims to:
- Identify Workforce Needs: Discuss current challenges and future requirements to ensure a pipeline of skilled workers.
- Develop Collaborative Training Programs: Create joint initiatives that provide relevant training and certifications, aligning with industry demands.
- Promote Manufacturing Careers: Engage with educational institutions and the community to highlight the benefits and opportunities within the manufacturing industry.
C-Level Visits
C-Level Visits are designed to support potential employees by offering young job seekers firsthand exposure to manufacturing environments. Through organized tours of facilities owned and operated by local manufacturers, participants can:
- Gain Insight into Operations: Understand the day-to-day activities and technologies used in modern manufacturing.
- Interact with Industry Leaders: Engage with executives to learn about career paths, company cultures, and growth opportunities.
- Assess Career Fit: Determine personal alignment with roles in the manufacturing sector, aiding informed career decisions.
Simi Works Job Center
The Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce has launched the Simi Works Job Center, an all-in-one webpage for employers and employees to fulfill their job search needs. Employers in the Simi Valley area can promote open positions and search for qualified employees, while job seekers can browse listings, upload resumes, and apply directly through the website. This initiative aims to streamline the employment process and strengthen the local workforce.
